Get Out: Intro to Outdoor Climbing

This class is a full-day introduction to outdoor rock climbing. If you have never climbed or if you have indoor experience only we’ll help you with the transition from gym to crag. The entire class is taught at the cliff. All the basic skills are covered, from knots and gear to climbing technique. We will give you an overview of the various disciplines of climbing with a focus on top-roping.

Skills learned:

  • Properly tying into the rope
  • Effectively belaying another climber
  • Route finding outdoors

Program designed for: Beginners new to climbing
Location: Courses are run at Quincy Quarries - Quincy, MA; Hammond Pond - Newton, MA; and Pawtuckaway State Park - Raymond, NH.
Minimum Age: Must be at least 14 years old
Max ratio: 6 students : 1 instructor
Gear needed: None, equipment rental is included (please see your confirmation e-mail for details)
Experience needed: None
What to wear:

Comfortable clothing that does not inhibit movement. Tights, sweats, long shorts, T-shirts, tank tops, and sports bras all work great.

The Boston Rock Gym and its guides may cancel or re-schedule due to weather. Refunds will be issued in the event of poor weather.
