We firmly believe that outdoor climbing is an experience that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age, climbing experience, or fitness level. That's why we offer such a wide variety of courses specifically designed to get you outside. Whether it's you and your young child's first time climbing, your first time swinging an ice axe, or even if you are looking to take your years of climbing experience to the next level...we've got the course for you. All of our courses are lead by experienced passionate climber's certified by the American Mountain Guide Association. So you know you're getting the best outdoor climbing experience available. SPRING/SUMMER/FALL COURSES:

Get Out: Intro to Outdoor Climbing

A full day introduction to outdoor rock climbing, if you have never climbed or if you have indoor experience only, learn what it takes to get up big rock. All done on the cliff. All the basic skills are covered, from knots to gear to climbing technique to rappelling. Learning while you climb.

 

Review or learn: How to tie in, how to belay, how it’s different outdoors.

Learn about: Rock protection, how it’s placed, how it’s removed, how to set up anchors.

Learn about: Route finding, and how holds are different outdoors.

Learn to Rappel and how to back-up a rappel.

All the skills you need to move outside and climb.

Family Intro to Outdoor Climbing

We know it’s critical that when children first start to climb that they have FUN. We offer a family intro to climbing that is less full of the technical and more full of just climbing, just what a family with children under fourteen need. Have fun, learn some of the basics and give your children an experience they will never forget.

Learn about: Route finding, and how holds are different outdoors.

Women Rock: Women's only Introduction to rock climbing

It's a Hard World After All: Intermediate to Advanced Rock Climbing

So you have experience and you want to get better? We can take the skills you already have and build on them. Whatever you need: technical rope skills, technique skills or just want to log in lots of vertical miles. You bring what you know and we will take you higher.

Top-rope Set Up and Management

This course will teach you to set up basic top-ropes so you and your friends or relatives can be climbing on your own. Now that you’re on your own the responsibility is yours. From the approach to the walk out we will help prepare you to climb on your own. Available for scout leaders, camp workers and others who are interested in furthering their knowledge to include outdoor climbing.

 

Learn: Anchors, gear, edge management.

Learn or review: Rappelling with back-ups, belay back-ups.

I Got the Bug: Learn to Lead

So now you want more, you want to lead. This course will start you on the way to being the one in front. Weather its sport or trad; we will start to build the skills you need to be on the sharp end. Protection, route finding, leader falls. It’s all part of the game. Learn the best way to start into the world of being “on the lead”.

 

Learn about: Rock protection, how it’s placed, how it’s removed, how to set up anchors.

You will be placing protection and setting up anchors under our supervision.

Now What?: Improvised Self-Rescue

So your out on your own four hundred feet off the deck and your partner dislocated their shoulder, what do you do? Learn the skills to get both of you quickly and safely to the ground. Escape the belay, ascend or descend to your partner, set up a haul system a lower or a rappel with your partner on your back.

 

Learn: belay escapes, improvised ascension, rappelling with an injured climber.

WINTER COURSES:

INTRODUCTION TO ICE CLIMBING:

Boston Rock Gym's intro to ice climbing class is a full day of professionally instructed and guided ice climbing. Learn everything you need to know to get yourself started in the world of climbing ice! Helmets, crampons, and gear provided. You will need to rent ice boots (available at REI).

STEEP ICE CLIMBING CLINIC:

Once you have the ice bug and you've tried something steep you know your forearms need some help. Just like rock climbing it's about technique, not just strength. Learning how to flow up the ice from professionals will accelerate your learning curve. Join the BRG for our one-day Steep Ice Clinic.

BASIC MOUNTAINEERING COURSE:

Crampon use, self -arrest, basic rope work, and low-angle ice climbing are all part of the Boston Rock Gym's introduction to mountaineering class. Efficiency is the key to mountaineering success. Learn to move with speed and safety over varied terrain.

You can’t do the dates we are offering? Don’t see the course you want? Have a climb you want to do? We can take care of that. The BRG also offers Private, Semi-Private outdoor climbing experiences to any group of 2 or more any day you want. Just call and we can set up a program to meet your needs.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Space is limited in these courses. All courses must be pre-paid in full to reserve a space. We require a minimum of 7 days to cancel or re-schedule. No refunds will be given inside of 7 days prior to the course. BRG and it's guides may cancel or re-schedule due to weather. Refunds will be issued in the event of poor weather.
